less than 1 week left - 10% off sale

Yesterday was my 29th birthday which means there is less than 1 week left in the September birthday sale at Pampered Peony. All products are 10% off, but only until next Tuesday.

I have heard from a customer that the shave oil works great for preventing stretch marks and moisturizing pregnant bellies. How's that for a double duty product!

Bios part 7 - CityHippie

Hi! My name is Christine, otherwise known as speedracer. I live near Phoenix, AZ now but I am mostly a native southern Californian. Mostly = Navy brat. I went to a tiny private university in northern Indiana where I got my now-husband and my BS degrees in Biology & Chemistry. Yes I am a nerd. I graduated in 2002 and we got married in June of 2005. Our son Elliott (ET) was born January 14, 2008.

Up until last month I was doing tuberculosis and other infectious disease research but I lost my job when funding ran out. For now I'm trying to get the hang of this SAHM thing.

I got fairly green when I was pregnant with my kidlet. In my opinion, the best thing about going green is that it can be a work in progress and no matter how slow or little we make change in our lives, it's still a positive move.

I started my Etsy store after learning how to make my own wool diaper soakers. Wool intrigued me but the brand-name local store options were pretty pricey. I liked the idea of being able to recycle beautiful, high-quality natural fibers and share the results for an affordable price. And let's face it - who else is going to put sweaters in Phoenix to good use? I also recently become licensed to sew KCK One diapers but have not stocked my store because I broke my driving/sewing foot. I have long-admired the beautiful handicrafts on Etsy and hopefully soon I will have my first sale.

Bios Part 6- Designs By Grace

Hello! My name is Rita- RetiePete616 on the nest and Designs By Grace on etsy. I live in West Virginia and love it here! I was born and raised here and stayed for college. I went to WVU and received my Regents BA (which is like a general studies). I may go back for a more specific MA, but I haven’t decided yet. Currently I am a Recreation Assistant at a local nursing home.

My husband and I met on a blind date when we were in college and got married on our 4 year anniversary. We will have been married for two years in November. We are currently TTC and talking about adoption. I really look forward to buying all of your ladies adorable cloth diapers and goodies.

We try really hard to be as eco-friendly as we can by doing the typical reduce, reuse, recycle. We also use as many chemical free products as we can. I make my own household cleaners and detergents and use natural beauty care products. We are working on the food issue; this one is harder for us.

As for my etsy shop: I joined a little over 2 years ago and love it. People are always curious where I got the name Grace instead of using my own name, so I will share: my mom has always called me Grace b/c I am probably one of the least graceful people ever and she thought it was funny. So, I used that. I have always been creative, and I enjoy making lots of different crafts, but jewelry is my favorite. It started with my friends and family asking me to make them jewelry and it grew from there.

I’m not sure how eco-friendly jewelry making can be since I use a lot of plastic beads, but I do what I can. I use shredded paper for packing and I love to take apart old jewelry and reuse the beads.

So check me out!

Bios Part 5 - Kokomele - melsie

My name is MeLisa (pronounced Mu (like mum) - Lisa) and most people know me as: Mel, melsie, lttltrefrog, baltem or as Kokomele.

I am currently a stay at home mom (SAHM) of Kaylee Adeline, born 12/29/08. We call her our little tax deduction since she was not due to arrive until the second week in January. I have been married for a little over 4 years to Chris (c3photos.etsy.com) who I just so happened to meet on the internet!

I went to college for 5 years at Frostburg State University pursuing a BS degree in Information Systems Technology. I wanted to be a computer programmer... That was until I decided to leave college after 5 years (and 3 classes shy of my degree) to be with the man of my dreams (my now husband). Which also coincided with the tech bubble bursting. So I fell back on what I was good at, administrative work and front desk/receptionist work. Finally after 5 years I found a job working for the worlds largest comic book distribution company that also happened to need a database developer... which of course I was qualified to do! Then my husband and I found out we were going to be parents... which changes EVERYTHING.

I had always considered my self to be a little "nature" girl, even as a child, but in college I embraced the more natural way of things as I was finally free to make the main decisions in my life. When I met my husband, he was the anti-nature man... his idea of roughing it is the motel 6, while mine was backpacking for 3 weeks in the Shenendoa Valley. But, we all make sacrifices for the ones we love.

Being a mom allowed me to focus more on what was important in my life again. I started looking at what we ate, the goods we consumed, the lifestyle and spending habbits we entertained. And slowly i've started to make those "green" changes again.

I don't consider myself a "crunchy" person, but I do drive a Subaru (which I hear is very "enviro chic" these days) my daughter was breast fed till 5 months of age, we buy local and organic produce and meat when available, recycle what the city allows us to and cloth diaper most of the time.

All that being said, I wish my "craft" was more of an Eco Friendly one. Its not. But I do pour a little of myself into each piece I create... which in itself is the nature of life and love. I strive to create every day pieces for the every day person. De-cluttering our lives is so important these days, it helps us to value what we have and not our "stuff". So that choice necklace or bracelet that you wear every day, and may even choose to pass on, its what I strive for in each item. Every item is made with love, hand crafted and individually designed. No two pieces are alike. And every item is made to stand the test of time and was created to be worn.

I also stand behind my work. I offer a free repair policy (with limitations on beads and availability of supplies) with each piece. I also want to make sure you love your item as much as I do, and also offer a 30 day money back guarante on each item (custom items may be returned with a stocking fee / re-design fee)

There is always something on sale so don't forget to look at the "sale" section!

Bios Part 4 - Shannon - mommyme - Pampered Peony

My name is Shannon or mommyme. I am a newly single, attachment parenting, mom to the most fabulous son ever! Amza is 20 months old but often thinks he's 15! I love to cook, read, spend time with Amza and my fabulous friends. I have the bad habit of leaving my shoes all over the house, which Amza now puts away in my closet for me!

I am a perpetual doctoral candidate in social psychology. Basically this means I have my MA in psych and have not finished my PhD. Being a student for so long and now a single mom I have learned how to get the things I like for within my budget, including making my own bath products. I have long been a fan of natural medicines and bath products. Recently I've been making my own home based cleaners as well.

I consider myself to be "Subaru Crunchy." I cloth diaper, breast fed for 1 yr, baby/toddler wear, advocate natural medicines, cleaners, & beauty products, recycle, and buy local, natural, and organic food when I can. At the same time I love Gymboree, Ann Taylor Loft, regular deodorant, my suv, and other less green convinces.

My etsy shop, Pampered Peony, provides all natural bath products. The goal is to give yourself that pampered spa feeling at home in your own bathroom. When you can only sneak away for 30min you should make it count! I'm currently having a 10% off sale in my shop until the end of September to celebrate my birthday.

Bios Part 3: Ashley - Squeaky Taco - Crunchy Clean

Hi! My name is Crunchy Clean Girl- aka Ashley!

I am a wife and mom of a baby girl who is the complete joy of our life. I have always tended towards natural and green things, and started making our cleaning products around 3 years ago. I worked on the recipes, and even came up with a new recipe once we started cloth diapering our ladybug after she was born.

In my free time (when I'm not "CrunchyCleaning it" as my DH calls it), I love to spend time with my family, cook yummy things, explore new places in our area, and buy cloth diapers!

I am SO pleased to introduce our new website at WWW.CRUNCHYCLEAN.COM in addition to the etsy site at http://CrunchyClean.etsy.com

Family Pre-Ladybug (and pregnant!)

The three of us:

Bios Continued: Kelly - luvlieK - Seventeen Stone

My name is Kelly, although most of you probably know me best as luvlieK. I am the oldest child in a tight knit family of six. We still get together every Sunday to have dinner like we always have - although, family dinners keep expanding and now include my husband, Brian, my son Caedan, and Raven, my daughter/pup. Brian and I met in 1999, right after I graduated high school. We dated all through college and married on September 17, 2005.

Earlier this year, our son was born; he is the first grandchild for both families and therefore, a long awaited addition to the family. Our pup helped us announce his existence by wearing an “I’m going to be a big sister” t-shirt. It took everyone a while to figure out we meant a baby and not another dog!

Caedan is the reason we have gone from light green to a darker shade of green. He reminds us why we have implemented all the changes we have and continue our quest to be more eco-friendly.

My Etsy site, Seventeen Stone by luvlieK, is a compilation of my background and my strengths. I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2003 with a double major in Anthropology and Art History. Everything I learned about different cultures and art helps me achieve a fresh perspective on things. But most of all, my Etsy site is a way for me to showcase my talents, while I concentrate on my main passion, raising Caedan.

Since I realized that we don’t have many post-pregnancy family pictures I have included a wedding picture and a picture of Caedan and Raven.

Bios Part 1 Ashley - Smashedflea - Bugabear

My name is Ashley, but most of you know me as smashedflea. In a few words, I am a wife, mom, and a soccer coach. I love working with little ones (2.5 – 4 is my favorite) and get the chance to work with children at church.

I have been happily married for five years, although my dh and I have been together for 7 years. We met in the University of Arkansas band in 2001. Our actual first date, and what we consider our officially together date is September 11, 2001 . I have a degree in journalism, and on that day, I was awoken by a phone call that began my crazy, emotional day. I spent the day interviewing students, and putting together stories about the day most of us will never forget. That evening, I met up with David, whom I already had plans with. We drove to a site overlooking our college town and sat there talking for hours. Right then I knew I was with a very special person if he could make me feel so much better after such an emotional day. Less than two years later we were married.

About a month before our 1 year anniversary, I found out I was pregnant with Sydney, whom most of you know as toddlerflea. She keeps me on my toes and is very energentic. Everyday she surprises me with the things she thinks up. Her imagination is huge, but her heart is even bigger. She is definitely a people person, but loves to butt heads with her Mama. My dad just sits back and laughs when I get frustrated with her because he says he has already raised that child once. In April, we added babyflea to the mix, otherwise known as Elle (pronounced like the letter “L”). She is definitely my angel baby and loves her big sister. I love watching them play together and think it is amazing to see how close they are after only four months.

We live in beautiful Northwest Arkansas and hope to never leave the area. Before staying at home with my babies, I worked as a graphic designer for The National Center of Appropriate Technology where I was surrounded by hippies. Jeans and Birkenstocks were the standard dress at work, and I began learning about organics and a more simple lifestyle. By the time I left, many of their principles had touched me, and are three years later, an important part of who I am. David likes to say I’m a hippy, but I prefer the term “Yippy” which I think more accurately describes our generation. I drive a CRV , not a hybrid and I love my modern conveniences, but I am always striving to reduce, reuse, and recycle. I want to leave things better than I found them, and want my children to have a wonderful world to enjoy.

My store, BugaBear Designs, is named after my girls who we call Bear and Ladybug. My mom taught me to sew in high school, and I finally got my own machine (and gave my mom’s back) two years ago. I really began sewing as an adult because I couldn’t find the things I wanted in the right colors or price. I’m bad about seeing something and thinking, “I can do that!” So, my fabric stash grows.

I sew at night when my girls are in bed and I’ve finished cleaning, helping David grade papers, and getting ready for the next day. I love what I do and hope to add more things soon. I hope this has helped you get to know me a little better!

How do I join?

It seems to be a fairly common question lately. And honestly, it has a simple answer. If you wish to join the Blog, which of course includes our Google Group and our Etsy Team (its a group package) just apply for membership to the Google Group! It's that easy...

There are a few requirements for entrance though:

* You must be a frequent and active member (3 months minimum) of the Eco Friendly Family board on the Nest.
Link: The Bump Forum

* You must have an active Etsy Seller account and "acceptable" product (no "adult" content please)

All applications to the group are reviewed by the entire group for one week before a decision is made. If your initial application is not accepted, please feel free to apply again in a month or so. It's nothing personal (I promise). We are just trying to keep our group small and include only those that are actual active members of the EFF board and also happen to have a cyber-store.

If your application is accepted, you are automatically granted access to the Google Group, a waiting period of 14 days (2 weeks) is requested before allowing acceptance into the Etsy Team, allowance to contribute to the Blog and access to any and all group accounts.

And I almost forgot to add the link to the Google Group!
http://groups.google.com/group/EFFN_Team

*rules, guidelines and entrance requirements are subject to 'Team" approval and may change at any time without notification or prior announcement.

Do uPin?  iPin!
Angeline Petalfoot made these cards for kicks and giggles, and although it's not a completely original idea, I thought I'd post for all to see.
These are 'double scrap' cards.
What does that mean?  Well, the cards themselves are made from scrapbooking remnants.  These are scraps, from scrapbooking, if you will.  :)
These are quality, handcrafted notecards.
Be proud of your diapering choice!  It's best for baby, and best for Mother Earth!

Official Team Status

It is official, we are now an Etsy Team!

There are a few spelling changes to be made in the "members" area but those should be taken care of in the next day or two. And hopefully our lovely banner, designed by our very own luvlieK, should be uploaded in a few days as well.

In the next few days I believe the team will begin to tag their items with "Team EcoNest". This way you can use the search function to see all of the items available for the entire team.

See the team details here! (http://team.etsy.com/viewteam.php?id=424)

Bunches added

After a few months of research and trial and error, I finally have a great way to embroider covers. To test, I even used this cover overnight, the insert I used was SOAKED, DS's pj's were as dry as when I put them on. I've added covers, bibs, and shirts. Don't forget there's pf's, reusable bags, and customs available. I have a bunch of different images available and have access to just about anything that I might not have.

Recent Creations from the ArtsyFartsy Sewing Studio

Here are a few of my most recent projects ... enjoy! =)

NEW reusable bags!

Crunchy Clean is full of all sorts of new and exciting things this Fall.

We're trying to reduce our impact on the earth, so we've partnered with etsy seller jruse001, of Under the Oak Tree Designs to make us extra large Pockets of Love to send detergent in!

The impact environmentally of plastic bags is unbelievable - only 1-3% of plastic bags are recycled! The rest either end up in landfills taking 500-1000 years to decompose or else they become litter, which make a huge impact on marine and wildlife. Check out this blog article for specifics!

These reusable bags have tons of uses, besides just carrying Crunchy Clean (which we think is good enough!)
  • Wetbag for car or diaper bag

  • Snack bag

  • Crafts Supplies or School Supplies

  • Makeup bag

  • Mama Cloth

  • Business card holder
